Pair of bespoke woodland cabins

I had the pleasure of working as a carpenter on these very unique buildings designed by Dan Morrish at Wilderness Wood, Sussex which were completed in 2022.

The two Hórreo cabins lovingly named, Dumbledore & Yaffle, provide temporary accommodation for people staying in the woodland for various events and activities.

Their design is inspired by the traditional grain-drying buildings of Asturias in northern Spain, the Hórreo. These were traditionally made from sweet chestnut and raised up above the ground, to avoid rodent ingress and create airflow.

The woodland is predominately a chestnut coppice which is the primary material used in the cabins' timber frame & cladding. There are also Cedar shingles, Oak floors,  Douglas fir rafters, Cherry furniture and much more.
